Wow! Round 2 done and what a difference a week in football can have..
Round 1 last week for a lot of the girls was their first time ever playing a proper game of footy and was a bit of a shock to the system. However as the game went on you could see the improvement from qtr to qtr and in the last qtr Ebony Bourke even managed to kick the first goal for the team and came away with the player of the match award.
Round 2 saw the girls playing the same team from palm beach lions and naturally the girls were a bit apprehensive before the game but our Dolphins girls kicked off right where they left off the week before with even more improvement, so much so it was like watching a different team and kicked the first 3 goals of the game. The lions fought back a little in the second and for the rest of the game it was a tight tussle with both teams going goal for goal the rest of the game.
Across the board there was clear improvement from every girl with greater concentration, tackle pressure and a want to get the ball first. Congratulations to Alice Homewood who was our round 2 player of the match.
In training we’ll continue to work on the contested part of our game and skills and implement some sharing the ball drills which will be the next link in our improvement.
See you all at Burleigh on Friday night!
Our club's first night game saw the girls come up against a tall Burleigh Bombers RED team. In front of a big home crowd the girls fought hard in the first quarter keeping the Bombers to 1 goal. With an emphasis on moving the ball forward by hand or foot at all times the girls surged their way through the game. The game moved from end to end and even though we found it hard to hit the scoreboard the defence was strong in keeping Burleigh Red to one goal a quarter. Late in the match we finally hit the scoreboard with Neve kicking a ripper goal and her first for the season. Well done to Trinity, Chloe and Neve for the Game Day awards.
The Kingcliff Dolphins U11 Blue faced off against the Byron Bay Magpies in another competitive match for the team.
Despite the Magpies getting off to a quick start, scoring 2 goals in the first quarter, the Dolphins refused to be deterred and kept their chins up. They took control of the contest in the second quarter, scoring an impressive 27 unanswered points, which proved to be the difference in the end.
The second half was much tighter, with both teams managing to score 2 goals each. However, the damage had already been done in the second quarter and the Dolphins emerged as eventual winners with a score of 39-26.
Once again, the Dolphins showed that they have the heart and determination to match it with older kids, and their willingness to compete in every contest will take them far this season. The win will only help to grow their confidence, and they can all take pride in their great team effort.
There was a lot of great performances today and I think that every player on the pitch today showed improvement from last weeks game. However, Player of the match today was Orlando Caine. He showed he has a big motor by playing a full game in the middle of the field and making countless tackles.
The team also celebrated three of its players - Kalan, Lucian, and Ziggy - who have each reached 50 games played for the club, a great achievement for the boys and a special moment for all involved. Thanks to the parents for the banner they made.
Lastly, thanks to the volunteers who gave up their time for the club - Mel on first aid, Eliza, Jack Rogers, and Gus as goal umpires, and Stacey for the oranges. The Dolphins appreciate you volunteering your time.
The team now looks forward to their next game against Brunswick Heads, hoping to carry their momentum into the next match.
Round 2 saw us at home against the Brunswick Bulldogs.
A glorious Sunday awaited us as perfect footy weather greeted us once again.
The Dolphins got off to a strong start with Harley doing the grunt work in midfield and Tommy finding plenty of space, we were able to capitalise early.
Thing’s really started to click in the 2nd half as Hudson took some nice marks and Georgia was at her contested best. Bodhi kicked goal of the day as he shrugged off a big tackle and snapped around the corner from 30 metres and dribbled it through. Indigo and Mason S started to link up well, while Xavier, Mitch and Alfie started to fire up forward as the Dolphins kicked away.
Players of the match were Indigo and Mason S. Thanks again to all the parents for their help. Jess.
It was a great game day as the Kingy Dolphins clashed with the formidable Tweed Coast Tigers at Cabarita. The sun was shining brightly as parents and supporters eagerly awaited the action to unfold.
From the opening bounce, it was evident that both teams were determined to give it their all. The Dolphins, in particular, showcased their growing confidence with every possession, displaying a level of resilience that spoke volumes about their progress as a team.
The coaches were delighted with the toughness displayed around the ball and the relentless tackling efforts of the Dolphins. Oscar, Sully, Nate, Zac, Matty, and Jobe showed their tenacity, fearlessly throwing themselves into every contest. Noah and Max hunted the footy all game showing off their speed and smarts.
But it wasn't just the physicality that impressed the spectators. The Dolphins also demonstrated their silky kicking & handball skills, showcasing their ability to deliver precise passes with finesse. Joey, Archie, and Liam were particularly outstanding in this regard, their kicks slicing through the air with pinpoint accuracy. Joey scored two goals. His good old mate Oxford who played the last quarter with an injury setting him up with a perfect pass. It was a joy to watch!
Every quarter the Dolphins' confidence continued to soar. The collective effort of the team was evident, as each player played their role with dedication and determination. James, Solly and Benji continue to grow in their confidence and footy craft and should be super proud. Rishi played his first game of AFL and looked right at home playing alongside his team mates.
In the end, the final siren sounded, bringing an end to a captivating clash between the Kingy Dolphins and the Tweed Coast Tigers. Congratulations to Oscar and Sully for earning the Player of the Week Award.
I’m sure parents you will agree that watching the boys grow in confidence with every game has been a joyous experience, and the future looks incredibly promising for the Kingy Dolphins. With a strong team culture of Fun, Respect and unwavering effort / determination, there's no doubt the boys will continue to provide us with more positive memories. On behalf of the coaches we thank all the parents for their positive culture they bring to our team.
A cracking home game on the weekend against the Ballina Bombers.
Our boys had to dig deep this game against some very tenacious opposition. With a reasonably gusty wind blowing down one end, the game was very tight until almost the final whistle.
What really impressed us coaches is that some very key messages were delivered at 3/4 time and our boys applied the game plan perfectly. The runaway goal from Archie was precisely the play we said we wanted to enact and the boys did it beautifully.
Our player of the week was Ollie. His speed around the contest and carrying the ball helped our team drive the ball forward. Ollie has really stepped his game up of late and is a very deserved player of the week and we think he’ll have a cracking season.
We also rewarded Billy with our ‘effort’ award. He has really thrived in a defensive role and multiple times he had to really dig deep to intercept the ball and we love seeing those repeat efforts.
Another road trip coming up next week and we’ll face off against Byron.
Go the mighty reds
Jono, Ben and Mick
