Kingscliff U8 Blue vs Lismore Swans White

Rd 2 saw us travel down the highway to play away against Lismore. With an early start, very wet conditions greeted us upon arrival but the kids were stoked just to be playing.

Right from the get go everyone rolled their sleeves up and got in and under. In the 1st Q it was a pretty even contest as both sides adjusted to the wet and slippery conditions but our attitude of “getting to ball 1st and getting low” proved vital as we peppered the goals for most of the 1st half.

Sisters Lily Holtzhauser and Indi Holtzhauser linked up superbly and constantly got the ball moving our way. Alfie Cameron was in the thick of it again and always looked for a team mate to dish off to and link up play.

The 3rd Q was where the magic happened. In the Middle we had Lily Young, Lily Holtzhauser, Neve Laughton and Georgia Halbedl up against 4 big bustling Lismore Boys. All 4 girls put on an absolute clinic being 1st to the ball, hand balling to one another and constantly driving the ball fwd to the dangerous fwd line where Mason Sinclair took his chances and kicked some very nice snags. Georgie Van Velzen and Indi Holtzhaser were also dangerous at ground level and the Dolphins were looking unstoppable.

The Team finished off the game strongly and kicked some lovely goals in the 4th Q. With the midfield on top and banging it in at all costs, it was lovely to see Tully Aalders running into an open goal only selflessly handball it off to his team mate who finished off his superb work. We spoke about team work before the game so this was a real positive.

It was so pleasing to see everyone play a role and get involved. Better players on the day were Lily Holtzhauser,
Indi Holtzhauser, Mason Sinclair, Alfie Cameron, Neve Laughton and our player of the match Lily Young who was everywhere. Congrats Lily!

Thanks to all the parents for making the effort to get there so early, Simon Aalders for your on ground support and our new goal umpire (who ended up running more km’s than the kids) Will Cameron Haha!

Go Dolphins! Jess, Simon, Will

Kingscliff U11 vs Murwillumbah Vulcans

Was another successful game for our under 11 lads. Was definitely a one sided affair with a score that showed that but we are all so proud how the boys always conduct themselves in good sportsmanship.

They put their hands up to help the other side but the opponents decided they didn't need help. Another blistering game by Jessie showing how far his game has come in such a short time. A well deserved best on ground. Keep up the good work lads and let's see how we go against Ballina this week.

Kingscliff U8 Red vs Brunswick Bulldogs

This week the Kingy Dolphins played at home against the Brunswick Bulldogs coached by the legendary Kane Johnson former Adeliade premership player and captian of Richmond.

The two teams were evenly matched throughout all four quarters and played in a positive spirit. In the first half the Kingy Dolphin defense held strong. Stand out efforts in defense came from Xavier, Mitch, Archie, Blake and Harley. These lads stood like they were 6ft tall and rebounded the ball back into the middle so our team could go forward.

In the second half our team continued to gel and sense of synergy was starting to show. There was some outstanding linking of handballs and kicks especially from Joey, Max, Zac, Jobe, Noah and Oxford. This helped us to transfer the ball quickly to give our team more scoring oppurtunities. Congratulations to Jobe who was awarded the (BOG) for his prerssure, speed and goal kicking. Thank you to James who played on the opposite team and dominated with ball in hand.

Once again it was great to see our our lads incorporating the skills they have been learning at training, especially passing the ball to players in better positions. A beautiful moment in the game happened when Sullivan purposely gave the ball to an opposition player who was finding it tough on the ground due to his size. A great sign of sportmanship and something we love at the Kingy Dolphins.

Thank you to all the parents for their support as we continue to grow and move forward in the right direction.

Kingscliff U10 Red vs Byron Magpies

We played at home against the Byron Magpies this week. Byron has been a very tough club for us and the physicality of the game stepped up significantly. The boys more than held their own and really put in a strong performance.

Thankfully the weather held off for the majority of our game and the boys were very clean with their possessions and used the whole ground. A real focus for the coaches is clean use of the ball and taking that first option and we were really encouraged with the growth in this area.

Player of the week was Max C. Max patrolled the backline and remained 'one kick behind the play' and mopped up the opposition's forays. He really distributed the ball well and also went forward and did some damage. We're thrilled with the progress Max is making and he is really giving his all at both training and on game day.

We have a local derby this week against Under 10 White at 10am at home. Having watched the other U10 local derby last week I can tell the club is on a really good growth trajectory and looking forward to seeing all the kids have fun together (hopefully with some sun this time!!).

Thanks
Ben, Jono and Mick

Kingscliff U10 Blue vs  Kingscliff U10 White

Last weekend the mighty U10 Blues finally hit the hallowed turf of Merv Edwards Field to start their 2022 campaign. It’s been fantastic watching the boys develop their skills during the pre-season & now it’s time to put it in action on the field.

Round 1 was against the Kingy Dolphins U10 White Team coached by Solly. Both teams train together on Thursday nights and therefore it was a great way to start our season. The first quarter was quite an even contest between both sides and I loved watching everyone work together as a team.

As we moved into the 2nd & 3rd quarters, little Joey Black from the White Team started to dominate the centre clearances, he is a fantastic little player, and this put pressure on our backline. We had some outstanding contributions by everyone on the day, in particular, Ky O’Grady who was named “Player of the Match”. Ky has a booming left foot & he used it to great effect on the weekend. Well played mate!

This year is a BIG step up from the U8’s, especially considering that we're the youngest team in the U10’s competition. All that being said, i’m really proud of how our players never gave up on the weekend & it’s important that we keep this attitude for every game this season. We know it’s going to be a challenging season as we play kids 1-2 years older than us, however, that doesn’t stop us from having fun & playing as a team.

This week at training we’re going to continue to work on our spacing across the 3 zones & of course being accountable (find a man) when we don’t the ball.

This weekend we’re back home again to take on the Tweed Coast Tigers - 11am kick-off. I look forward to seeing you all at the game.

Coach Ben

Kingscliff U10 White vs  Kingscliff U10 Blue

1st Qtr - After a quiet start, the boys started to have some fun and finished the qtr with a couple of goals.

2nd Qtr - After some instruction from Coach Solly to look for your teammates and share the ball around they took it very seriously and by the end of the qtr every team member had touched the ball with some great goals from Joey, Lucas and Ziggy.

3rd Qtr - Started a bit slower with the other team getting the ball out of the middle quicker and stayed in their half most of the qtr, some great team work by Jack and Javier hand passing between each other to get it down for our only goal of the qtr by Lucas.

4th qtr - Finished strong with play like the 2nd qtr with all the boys getting involved having fun and passing between each other resulting in several goals to finish the match, Joey and Ziggy linking up a few times with some great work in the middle by Lenny.

Fantastic 2nd game of the season, with the boys enjoying themselves and being great teammates. Player of the match Ziggy Morgan.

Cheers,
Solly and Trev.
