Big thanks to Ben at www.thissaltylife.com.au for taking some great photos of the teams in action.
Round 6 saw us head south again for the trip to face Ballina.
The team is starting to function like a well oiled machine and right from the get go, the kids looked the goods.
We kicked into a strong breeze in the 1st half, but that made no difference as we peppered the goals all half.
Georgia V was busy again swooping on the loose ball in the packs and dishing it off as Alfie C, Indi H, Lily H and Indigo B started to take control.
Levi M was steady all day and Neve L looked dangerous all game as she peppered the goals.
Hudson P had his best game for the year while Lily Y and Mason S were playing to their usual high standards. New Players (and sisters) Peyton and Lila also showed they can play and got stuck in straight away.
But it was Georgia H who was the standout. Not only did she bag a few goals, but her ground balls and willingness to get involved was huge.
Player of the Match - Georgia Halbedl
Encouragement Awards - Hudson Partridge & Lily Holtzhauser
The kids are really starting to play some exceptional Footy and just shows how far we have come in only 7-8 weeks.
Go Dolphins!

Nice early one last week, with quite a drive and how cold was it ?
This game was like a practise match unfortunately as the opposition only had 10 players being a holiday long weekend.
Most of these ten players were quite small too, so as we had 15, we gave them 3 of ours to help them out (at times during the game I think they had 15 players against our 10).
Despite them having the extra players we were smashing them at quarter time, so we gave them Jesse for two quarters and reduced our numbers down back so that they had a chance to score. Score they did, the flood gates opened, and they were dominant in the third quarter with their better players being the ones we lent them.
We got Jesse back for the final term and Nicholas went into the centre and got his hands on it and got several repeat clearances. We finished the game off extremely well. with nearly everyone in the side kicking at least one goal during the game.
Special mention to the award winners being Billy for “Best On” – he defended fantastically well for us and attacked the loose ball with endeavour. The “Coach Award” went to Ty who stepped up his game to a higher level and got plenty of possessions and tried hard all day – even when he was in Lismore colours.
Well done boys and keep up the great work.
For the first time this season, the Kingy Dolphins hit the road and ventured south to take on the Ballina Bombers at Fripp Oval. Unfortunately due to illness, we were missing Jack, Carter, Ashton, Jaxon and Orlando from our team lineup, however, this didn’t stop the boys from putting in a great effort.
Last week everyone was excited to welcome back Max from a broken wrist. You could see that Maxy was itching to get amongst the play after being on the sidelines for the past 4-weeks & his impact was felt across the park immediately. Max was well supported by Darcy who was not afraid to get amongst the bigger kids & lay some bone-crunching tackles. Both boys were awarded “Player of the Match” and “Encouragement Award” respectively for their leadership & effort.
Unfortunately due to our lack of numbers we were unable to contain the Bombers centre clearances and forward entries, albeit everyone tried their hearts out which is all that we ask from our team of Dolphins. We’ve been working hard on our defensive pressure at training & ensure that “everyone has a man” and it was great to see the boys put this into action last weekend.
This week our focus will continue to be on “accountability" when we don’t have the ball. Working hard for each other and not wasting our disposals ie: kicking to advantage, will be our emphasis for training this Thursday.
We look forward to watching the boys play again this Sunday at home.
Coach Ben + Mark
First away trip for the season and we made the trek down to Byron at their home ground. Absolutely stunning day for football but there was a reasonable wind blowing down one end.
Our boys got off to an absolute flyer! It helped with the wind at our back and piled on a lot of sharp goals on the back of some midfield dominance. In the 2nd quarter the tables were turned slightly and Byron bounced back strongly with the wind at their backs.
Oranges once again proved to be the right tonic as once again after half time the boys came out ready to play. Our movement of the ball by foot and hand is really coming together.
A great sign for the team is that we learned how to use the ball into the wind. Whilst the 2nd quarter we struggled, in the 4th quarter we started to move by hand and run into space on the wings. We had many compliments from other parents at the ground about just how well drilled the team is.
Player of the week was Xavier. He kicked some amazing goals including a beautiful drop punt from 30m out and a very nice checkside. He also mopped up the loose ball and was a threat in the air. He has been building as the season goes and is really turning it on now.
Encouragement award this week went to Bodhi. Bodhi is a key part of the engine room and he fronts up week after week just getting it done. This culminated in a five goal last quarter from him into the breeze.
We think this was probably the best game the boys have played this year and we're delighted with their progress. Back at home next week with a game against Ballina at 11am.
Go Dolphins!!
This week our team came up against a strong opponent - the Tweed Coast Tigers. Our boys who are mostly under age-matched it against the older boys and played their best. There was a variety of outstanding individual moments and awesome team moments throughout the game. It is important to understand that our team has been put together with the intention that we will be together for a couple of years. This makes the coaches happy to know that we will get to grow and develop as a team!
Congratulations to Max who was voted best on ground (BOG) for his high possessions and attack on the footy. Well done, Max! Congratulations to Xavier who was awarded most improved for his strong body work to take marks and crash the packs. Great effort, Xavier.
There were many learning opportunities from this game and we will continue to grow and refine our AFL skills. All the boys put in and gave their best and that's all we can ask as coaches and as parents.
Thank you, parents, for all your support and understanding as we undertake this fun and exciting journey together.
From your proud coaches Jimmy, Joshy and Fletchy
