Kingscliff - 1 . 1 . 7
Ormeau - 9 . 17 . 67
Our third week in a row of taking on the top teams of division 3, and the boys knew what was coming and were keen to take it on.
The Dolphins started well with some good attack on the pill and good ball movement that resulted in a few forward entries and an early goal which was great to see. Ormeau also came out strong but their inaccuracy kept the scores close during the first quarter. This changed in the second quarter when they got their eye in and started to pile on the goals and they managed to pull away and increase their lead for the rest of the game.
The Bulldogs are a high pressure team and were constantly harassing and tackling and contesting every play, and the Dolphins had to work very hard for every possession. On the flipside, when Ormeau gained possession of the ball they would spread quickly into space and move the ball accurately, leaving our boys a bit flat footed and struggling to cover them. This has been the ongoing theme the past few weeks against the top teams, and we do realise that these strong teams can be very difficult to defend against. Our boys kept trying and fighting hard all day which is always good to see and again they made us proud.
Zac was our player of the week and he had a huge day in full back as the last line of defence. He was doing some great marking and tackling, and did some big rebounding kicks out of the back line, and he was definitely worn out by the end of the game.
Bohdi was also impressive in defence and across the middle of the ground. His big marks, attack on the ball, and tackling pressure was great to watch and he worked very hard for all four quarters to keep the Dolphins in the game.
Milan worked hard winning the ball across the half back line and pushing forwards, causing headaches for the Bulldogs with his ability to get clear of traffic. As per usual the midfield duo of Daniel and Andre used their speed and attack to great advantage. Cooper also had a good game, finding the ball and taking on the opposition to break free and move the play forward. Joel kicked a great goal in the first quarter to get us on the scoreboard early and gave the team a bit of excitement.
This Friday night we are taking on Tweed Coolangatta which should be a great contest as we had an exciting draw with them earlier in the season in round 4. After a few weeks of copping some harsh losses, the boys will be hungry to celebrate Cooper’s birthday and to play some good footy and try to get the win. Go Dolphins!
