Kingscliff U11 vs Ballina Bombers

Weather wise we were blessed on Sunday to be able to play. The eventual home against Ballina saw us get the points just before it began bucketing down soon after the final siren.

The Bombers showed us early that they had come to play but we held them off and on got on the scoreboard through little Joey B who continues to show us week after week that he is going to a special player at junior level.

It was a close tussle for the rest of the first quarter before Zack scored to release the shackles and at quarter time we led by two goals to zip. In the second term we kicked with the aid of a slight cross breeze and Levi F chimed in with his

second goal for the year from a free kick directly in front and didn’t let us down. Jesse was again dominant all around the ground picking up possessions at will and scored a nice goal (his tenth for the year) to put us up four goals to zip at the big break.

Down back Joe D. was repelling attack after attack with a brilliant defensive effort earning him the “Encouragement Award” for the match. We were beating the opposition all around the ground, especially our onballers who did as they pleased throughout the game.

A special mention to first gamer Noah who dominated in the ruck and showed his ability to bust packs open with his strength and evasive skills and finishing off with some great handballing. These efforts earnt him the “Player of the Week Award” for the round.

Our backline (who were brilliant in the first half) didn’t have a real lot to do after half time and kept Ballina goalless by the games end. The Bombers flooded our forward line in the second half which made scoring difficult, and the game didn’t flow after that. We only scored once in the third quarter through a nice goal to Luca and then Preston snared a well-earned goal in the final term.

Overall, another great team effort with our players linking up with some nice handball chains and some clean passing by foot considering the slippery conditions. A win by 44 points and us coaches are extremely happy with the boy’s progress – they are doing the Dolphins jumper proud.

Kingscliff U10 White vs Kingscliff U10 Red

What a great game, 2 great teams full of kids super keen to play and really enjoying their footy. Watching BK’s team play after also having a great game shows the strength of our under 10’s boys. Red team were very generous to give us a few of their players as we were a bit short on numbers.

White team defended brilliantly against their slightly bigger rivals, throughout the game relishing the contest. There were some great individual performances from Joey, Jack and Lucas, but it was team work that shone brightest today with some terrific efforts by Headley, Parker and Alfie helping their teammates and getting the ball back down our end. This all culminated in a brilliant passage of play where the boys got it out of the Red’s forward line and got all the way down to our forward line handpassing to each other all the way!

Our player of the week was Lenny who was everywhere today, and a standout improvement and deserving of the encouragement award was Javier. Great game today from both under 10’s teams.

Cheers,
Solly and Trev.

Kingscliff U10 Red vs Kingscliff U10 White

We had a great derby last Sunday, with the Reds taking on the younger Kingy White team who did really well making for a very even contest. It was great to see every player on the team getting a lot of the ball. That's what we are trying to encourage as coaches - for all players to contribute to the best of their abilities.

Beau was our player of the week with some great possessions and hand passing to really open up the play. Will got the encouragement award with some good attack on the footy and we are also seeing some great improvements with his kicking. Kai saw a lot of the footy and Tommy had an amazing quarter in the forward line. Daniel, Mason and Ben did great work getting the ball moving through the midfield, and Archie making a great target when the long kicks came his way. Bohdi, Xavier, Jack B and Jack R were all very solid as usual, and Joel continued his form with some clean possessions.

A big thanks to the boys who helped out and played for the U10 White team - with Jack R especially relishing the chance to get stuck into his team mates.

Kingscliff U10 Blue vs Tweed Coast Tigers Black

Last weekend the U10 Kingy Blues welcomed the Tweed Coast Tigers (Black Team) to our home ground - Merv Edwards Field. Unfortunately, we had 4 players out last week due to illness & or being on holiday, however, we were fortunate enough to pick up Xavier, Jack and Kelley from the earlier U10 match.

The first quarter was a hard-fought battle across the ground with both sides feeling each other out. Once again Ky had a huge impact in the midfield with his booming left foot providing great service to our forward line. The second quarter was the turning point for us as a team this season. After a tough first-round hit-out against the Kingy U10’s White Team, our players had lost a little bit of confidence, however, this all changed when we kicked 4 goals to 1 against the wind in the 2nd term.

It was great seeing everyone enjoying their footy, sharing the ball and celebrating when their teammates kicked a sausage roll. That’s a goal to those who are new to Aussie Rules footy ;-) The final 2 quarters were an even contest and I was really impressed with how the boys continued to fight for possession even when being opposed by a much bigger & or older player.

Banjo Staite was awarded “Player of the Match” this week for his outstanding courage & attack on the footy. Whilst Archie Plunkett was awarded our first-ever “Encouragement Award” for his continued development & never give up attitude. Great work to you both!

It was a real team effort & everyone contributed to our first win this season. Well done guys. Special shout and thank you to Jack, Xavier & Kelley for joining our team last weekend. We really appreciate your support guys.

This weekend we take on the 2nd Tweed Coast Tigers (Yellow) team at Round Mountain Oval, Cabarita. No doubt it will be another tough & physical game for our players, however, it’s also another opportunity to showcase our skills and team spirit.

I look forward to seeing you all at the game this weekend.

Cheers, Ben

Kingscliff U8 Blue vs Kingscliff U8 Red

This week the under 8's reds played the under 8's blue team in an unofficial friendly local derby. To have fun playing AFL you need a couple of secret ingredients. You need an equally match opponent, high spirt and lots of mud. These were most definately in abundance.

Ealry in the game our lads were trying their best, howerer the silky skills and height of the girls on the opposing team dominated and starved us of ball. Joey showed his classy skills impressing the coaches with his kicking and handball skills. He was able to dish of a few clever handballs to the delight of his team mates. Zac was one of these players who benifited from this to score a cracking goal first goal for our team.

Archie and Max showed their kicking power with some big boots to clear the ball from traffic. This was much needed especially in the backline. Oxford was again took some strong marks throughout the game. This is becoming a real strength of his and us to have more possesion of the ball.

In the second half of the game Mitch, Blake and Jobe started to get their hands more on of the ball. This helped change the momentum and gave us more scoring oppurtunities. Noah took full advantage of this to slot three unanswered goals to help level the playing field. Congratulations to Noah as he recieved the coaches votes as (BOG) Best on Ground for his outstanding play.

Thank you to all the mums and dads who had to wash all the muddy clothes. I know all the lads had heaps of fun and enjoyed what the environment offered them.

Kingscliff U8 Blue vs Byron Magpies

We hosted Byron Magpies at home for our Rd 3 game. They certainly came to play and we knew we were up for a tough game right from the start. Wet and slippery conditions greeted us once again, which the kids are now starting to get used to.

Our ball handling and skills are really starting to improve. Lily H continued her impressive form and new player Indigo Bright also had an impact all game. It was a very even contest for the majority of the game and played in great spirits with both sides having a red hot crack. James Bele was our player of the match and took some fantastic marks and kicked some nice goals. Also congrats to Tully Alders who took out our encouragement award.

Thanks again to all the parents who braved the wet conditions to help out on Sunday. Hopefully we get some dry games moving forward.
