Kingscliff U8 Blue vs Kingscliff Red

Rd 4 was the local Derby vs Kingscliff Red. A beautiful Sunny Sunday had finally arrived as the 2 sides took the field. A fast start saw the Blues hit the scoreboard early but it was slowly pegged back as the Reds found their groove.

Lily Young was at once again and found plenty of the ball through the midfield linking upwell with James Bele constantly getting the ball into our FWD line.

Mason Sinclair finished off their work with some nice goals as did Georgia Van Velzen who kicked her 1st major of the year! Hudson Partridge, Alfie Cameron and Tully Aalders started to come into the game and we started to play some terrific footy.

Neve Laughton and Georgia Halbedl were hand balling beautifully and always linking up with their team mates which was pleasing to see.

After a very even contest and played in terrific spirits, both sides put on a wonderful display of skills. All players on both sides are improving out of sight and the future looks very exciting down at the Dolphins.

Indigo Bright took out our player of the match for the Blue team and was everywhere. Levi Miller took home the encouragement award for his crafty display and is getting better each week.

A ripping day had by all.

Go Dolphins! Jess/Simon/Will

Kingscliff U8 Red vs Kingscliff Blue

The first game of the morning provided all parents and spectators with a good old fashion local derby where the Kingy Reds played our friends/rivals the Kingy Blue for the second week in a row.

From the very start the coaches could see the vast improvement of skills and ball movement from our side. Positive areas of improvement were the kicking and marking skills, contested footy (being first to the ball) and passing to a team mate in a better position. A great passage of play was Oxford marking the ball, then kicking a perfect drop punt to Sully who then kicked it into our forward line where Harley took a strong pack mark. At some stage throughout our game most of our players had been involved in some silky passage of plays.

Congratulations to Joey who received our (BOG) Best on Ground for his consistent play in all positions, especially snagging three goals throughout the game. Sully's strong performance in and around the ball earnt him most improved. Welcome to Nate who joined our team for his very first game of AFL.

As always the coaches are very proud of the improvements and effort that our team is making. We hope all lads can make training so we can keep growing their skill set and love for AFL.   Once again thank you to all the parents for their support, we very much appreciate it.

Kingscliff U11 vs Ballina Bombers

What a cracker of a game. Came of a good win last week against Ballina and they were keen to not let us get the better of them again. You could tell by their stacked team and their warm up that they came to play. Our first quarter was like our boys were asleep. Just cruising along thinking it was going to be another easy win.

We gave them a boosting pep talk at quarter time and did it ever work. They came out firing on all cylinders. Hard at the ball and tackling like raging bulls. A few of their boys physically put it to our lads and they our boy retaliated with a fierce style of footy we hadn't experienced yet. Let's just say we came home with the chocolates. All lads played an amazing game winning by over 9 goals.

Special mention to Jessie, Zac and Levi B who played a dominant role in the centre. Riely and Jo saved us in the back lines. Luca showed us what a dynamite he can be when he turns it on. Kicking 3 goals got him coaches award for the week. One lad who did out shine, as all the boys would say, was Taj. Tacking with ferocity and running all day. Kicking himself a few goals and really putting his body on the line for the boys.

Catch you all next week.
Cheers
Simon and Steve

Kingscliff U10 Blue vs Tweed Coast Yellow

Last weekend the Tweed Coast Tigers (Yellow Team) ventured north to play the mighty Kingy Dolphins at Merv Edwards Field. For the first time in a long time, we were greeted by blue skies & sunshine which made for a fun & fast game of footy.

The first half of footy was evenly contested as both teams worked hard to win the centre clearance. We, unfortunately, missed training on the Thursday prior, so we didn’t get an opportunity to work on our structure, however, the boys still kept their spacing across all 3 zones and this provided for some exciting / open footy.

Unfortunately our little superstar Jaxson came off at half-time due to illness, so we were a man down in the 2nd half, however, this didn’t stop all players from trying their best. A big shout out to our “Player of the Match” this week, Jack Sinclair, for another outstanding game. Whilst Carter was awarded the “Encouragement Award” this week for his 4-qtr effort.

In the end, the bigger & older Tweed Coast Tigers finally took ascendency of the game and we were unable to stay with them. That being said, I want to acknowledge the great effort by all players. We understand it’s going to be a challenging year, however, all that we ask is that our players:
1. Have fun
2. Never give up / stay positive
3. Play for each other

A BIG shout out once again to Jack and Xavier for joining our team last week from the U10 Reds. We really appreciate your support guys and congratulations again for another outstanding game. Continue to lead by example boys!

This weekend we welcome the Byron Bay Magpies to our home oval. Game is at 11:30am again, so please aim to be at the ground around 11am.

We look forward to seeing you all there.

Kingscliff U10 Red vs Tweed Coast Black

In a game that was supposed to be at TWeed Coast, we instead found ourselves in the midday slot back at home in bright sunshine. Really exciting match between Tweed Coast Tigers and our boys with lots of crunching tackles and exciting passages of play.

Our Player of the Week is Ben. He slotted easily one of the best goals of the season, and in his first year of footy is really starting to find his groove with lots of great play. All the coaches love how hard Ben tries and he really puts in his all.

Our encouragement award went to Tommy. Three goals from our big ruckman including an amazing solo effort to dispossess the opposition and run away for a goal was a huge highlight play.

We need to also make special mention of Max D who had a blinder of a last quarter and was everywhere - keep up the good work boys!

We are still trying to instill some basics of footy strategy into the lads and they are really grasping those fundamentals well. We continue to work on moving the ball down the wings and fast and then move in numbers to support your player.

Well done to all the boys and we could not be prouder of them all. Back at home again next week for another game against Tweed Coast.

Mick, Jono and Ben.
